Hopewell and St. James' Settlement Collaborate to Help Intellectually Disabled Youths Realise their Sporting Dreams

14 Mar 2013

Hopewell Holdings Limited (“Hopewell”) and St. James’ Settlement (“SJS”) are pleased to announce that their jointly organised “Strike” Bowling Programme (“Strike”) successfully trained 8 intellectually disabled young athletes to take part in the 37th Hong Kong Special Olympics Bowling Competition on 14 March 2013. The elite bowlers from the “Strike” team won 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze Medals, with over half of the team winning awards in the competition.

Hopewell cares about youth development, and has been organising and sponsoring various community programmes to help young people explore and unleash their potentials. Hopewell, in collaboration with its community partner, SJS, launched the “Strike” in 2011, the Hong Kong’s first bowling training programme targeted at intellectually disabled youths, with the ultimate goal of training athletes to participate in the 37th Hong Kong Special Olympics.

The “Strike” Programme has invited Ms. Vanessa Fung, former representative of Hong Kong Bowling Team, as the coach while Hopewell Social Club volunteers helped out as training partners. All in all, the three bowling training programmes altogether benefited more than 30 intellectually disabled youths.
