Hopewell Organized Board Game Fun Day to Improve Children’s Mental Health

13 Jan 2024

Hopewell Holdings Limited ("Hopewell") and St. James' Settlement have jointly organized the Hopewell Junior Volunteers Program for the eighth consecutive year, and have successfully held a series of activities, including six sessions of “Board Game Workshops” and the Board Game Fun Day. The program aims to support the mental health of primary school students, helping them to relieve negative emotions, learn emotional management, and improve their psychological well-being.

In order to help volunteers understand mental health and the rundown of the activity, we held a video volunteer training session for the first time before the event, deepening their understanding of the activity process and mental health, enabling them to provide better services to the students.

The Board Game Fun Day was successfully concluded on January 13, 2024 (Saturday) at the E.L.C.H.K Kwai Shing Lutheran Primary School. The event was led by seven volunteers who guided 20 students in participating in tabletop games, increasing their interaction and communication with each other. Through the games, the students not only learned new knowledge, but also learned to follow game rules, try new things, and build good relationships with others.

This event effectively relieved the students' stress and had a positive impact on their mental health. In the future, we hope to work with employees to bring more care and assistance to students in the community.

Wu Chung Family Charitable Foundation supports the Children's Oral Health Project, safeguarding the healthy smiles of children

02 Jan 2024

Dental caries, also known as tooth decay, is the most common disease among children. According to reports, approximately half of five-year-old children in Hong Kong suffer from tooth decay, and over 90% of them have not received proper treatment.

To improve this situation, the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Hong Kong has launched the "Jockey Club Children Oral Health Project." This project provides school dental care services for kindergarten children in Hong Kong to examine and control tooth decay, preventing it from worsening. However, since the program only offers dental care for preschool children, once a child is found to have tooth decay, they may not be able to receive proper treatment in underprivileged families.

In collaboration with the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Hong Kong, the Wu Chung Family Charitable Foundation sponsors approximately 75 underprivileged students each year to receive comprehensive follow-up treatment. Starting from January 2024, the program will provide treatment for patients, including handling complex cases and patients with severe tooth decay, ensuring the oral health of underprivileged students and alleviating the burden on their families.

Hopewell Centre supported mooncake recycling program

11 Sep 2023

As Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, everyone will receive various types of mooncakes. An environmental group's survey found that Hong Kong wasted over 3.2 million mooncakes last year, with an average of 1.2 mooncakes wasted per household, indicating a slight improvement compared to the previous year.

This year, Hopewell Centre continued to support the mooncake recycling program by collecting mooncakes at the Customer Service Center, becoming one of the public mooncake collection points, and encouraging the public to reduce waste.

The recycling program is organized by FOOD-CO, a subsidiary of St. James' Settlement, with the aim of collecting the mooncakes people have received as gifts and donating them to individuals in the community who are in need, sharing the joy of the festival.
