Hopewell Empowers Youth Career Development

29 Jul 2024

Hopewell Holdings Limited (“Hopewell”) is committed to nurturing the next generation of talent, helping them unlock their full potential. This year, Panda Hotel, a subsidiary of Hopewell, became a corporate partner of the "Hang Seng – St. James' Settlement Youth Career Platform," offering three Form 4 to Form 6 students a three-and-a-half-day work experience from July 29 to August 1.

The "Taste·Job 2024" aims to equip senior secondary students with essential workplace soft skills while broadening their understanding of different industries, thereby strengthening their career planning capabilities. This year, the program engaged 18 participating companies and organizations, benefiting nearly 60 students across diverse sectors including food and beverage, property management, hospitality and tourism, education, event planning, digital marketing, arts, and design.

Before commencing their work experience, St. James' Settlement provided pre-employment training to help students understand service content, job roles, and key considerations. The students were then assigned to Panda Hotel's Front Office, Food & Beverage, and Housekeeping departments, where colleagues acted as workplace mentors, guiding them through daily tasks and sharing valuable insights. Through hands-on experience, the students not only gained deeper knowledge of hotel operations but also developed communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills, broadening their horizons and laying a solid foundation for future career development.

At the conclusion of the three-and-a-half-day program, students presented the outcomes of their mini-projects to a judging panel. The interns at Panda Hotel delivered outstanding performances, ultimately standing out from their peers and winning the championship, showcasing the remarkable potential of today's youth.

Hopewell Holdings and St. James' Settlement Collaborate to Lead Primary School Students in Exploring M+ Art Journey

20 Jul 2024

Hopewell Holdings Limited (“Hopewell”) has teamed up with St. James' Settlement for the eighth consecutive year to organize the “Hopewell Junior Volunteers Programme” providing nearly ten students from the Po Leung Kuk Chan Yat Primary School with a meaningful visit to M+ art exhibitions.

The event took place on July 20, and in addition to nine HH Social Club volunteers, six students from the Vocational Training Council were invited for the first time to serve the community together. The program was divided into two segments, allowing the students to fully understand and experience the charm of art, fostering their creativity and aesthetic appreciation.

During the art tour, students participated in group viewings of the exhibitions at M+, promoting interaction and mutual understanding among the participants. We visited the “Shanshui: Echoes and Signals” thematic exhibition, the “Henry Steiner: The Art of Graphic Communication”, and the M+ Sigg Collection: Another Story, where guides patiently explained the works, deepening our understanding of visual arts and the rich meanings behind the artworks. Additionally, interactive mini-games enhanced communication among the participants.

Hopewell Junior Volunteers Programme Takes Students on an Artistic Journey

22 Jun 2024

In recent years, the mental health of children in Hong Kong has become a growing concern. According to a survey conducted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong's medical school, 24.4% of respondents reported experiencing at least one mental health issue in the year prior to the survey. Alarmingly, nearly half of the caregivers were unwilling to seek professional help, highlighting the urgent need to address the emotional well-being of the next generation. In response, the Hopewell Junior Volunteers Programme organized once again six sessions of "Expressive Arts Experience Workshops" and an Expressive Arts Fun Day.

Hopewell Holdings Limited ("Hopewell") is partnering with St. James' Settlement for the eighth consecutive year to co-host the “Hopewell Junior Volunteers Programme”, aimed at supporting the mental health of primary school students. Following the recent "Board Game Workshop," we used artistic creation to achieve therapeutic effects, helping students alleviate emotions and stress, and improve their overall mental and physical health. The workshops utilized various forms of art to express inexpressible feelings and thoughts, allowing students to develop self-awareness and explore their inner needs.

To help students understand emotions and artistic creation, the program also organized guided tours of two exhibitions for 40 students from the S.K.H. Tsing Yi Chu Yan Primary School and the Po Leung Kuk Chan Yat Primary School before the summer holidays. The exhibitions included a multimedia exhibition at Oil Street, as well as the M+ exhibition in the West Kowloon Cultural District. Guided by docents, students deepened their understanding of the artworks and the stories of the artists.

On June 22, eight volunteers joined around ten students from S.K.H. Tsing Yi Chu Yan Primary School for a guided tour of the Oil Street exhibition, where they learned about the exhibits and the artists' narratives while experiencing immersive visual and sensory effects. The activity was conducted in small groups, allowing students to interact and get to know each other better. By viewing the sound art exhibition "encounters: oi! oi! oi!," they rediscovered forgotten sounds in their daily lives, embarking on a multi-sensory journey. Additionally, from a historical architecture perspective, they learned about this Grade II historic building, which transformed from staff quarters and storage space into a vibrant artistic venue.
