| Hopewell and its Properties Honored with “Breastfeeding Friendly” Certificate | | | 27 Jun 2024
Hopewell Holdings Limited ("Hopewell") and its shopping centers, Hopewell Centre and Panda Place, have participated for six consecutive years in the “Say Yes to Breastfeeding” campaign organized by the Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF, in collaboration with the Health Bureau and the Department of Health. We have signed a commitment to promote “Breastfeeding Friendly Workplaces” and “Breastfeeding Friendly Premises (Gold label)”, creating a supportive environment for breastfeeding. Recently, Hopewell and its malls were awarded certificates of appreciation from the organizers in recognition of their support and promotion of breastfeeding-friendly measures.
Hopewell is dedicated to building a harmonious and inclusive work environment by implementing family-friendly employment policies and providing flexible work arrangements and support. We have established breastfeeding nursing rooms in the workplace to foster a breastfeeding-friendly workplace culture, enabling employees to achieve a better balance between work and family life.
Additionally, Hopewell Center and Panda Place have also implemented breastfeeding-friendly measures to enhance customer experience and meet their needs. |
| Hopewell Junior Volunteers Programme Takes Students on an Artistic Journey | | | 22 Jun 2024
In recent years, the mental health of children in Hong Kong has become a growing concern. According to a survey conducted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong's medical school, 24.4% of respondents reported experiencing at least one mental health issue in the year prior to the survey. Alarmingly, nearly half of the caregivers were unwilling to seek professional help, highlighting the urgent need to address the emotional well-being of the next generation. In response, the Hopewell Junior Volunteers Programme organized once again six sessions of "Expressive Arts Experience Workshops" and an Expressive Arts Fun Day.
Hopewell Holdings Limited ("Hopewell") is partnering with St. James' Settlement for the eighth consecutive year to co-host the “Hopewell Junior Volunteers Programme”, aimed at supporting the mental health of primary school students. Following the recent "Board Game Workshop," we used artistic creation to achieve therapeutic effects, helping students alleviate emotions and stress, and improve their overall mental and physical health. The workshops utilized various forms of art to express inexpressible feelings and thoughts, allowing students to develop self-awareness and explore their inner needs.
To help students understand emotions and artistic creation, the program also organized guided tours of two exhibitions for 40 students from the S.K.H. Tsing Yi Chu Yan Primary School and the Po Leung Kuk Chan Yat Primary School before the summer holidays. The exhibitions included a multimedia exhibition at Oil Street, as well as the M+ exhibition in the West Kowloon Cultural District. Guided by docents, students deepened their understanding of the artworks and the stories of the artists.
On June 22, eight volunteers joined around ten students from S.K.H. Tsing Yi Chu Yan Primary School for a guided tour of the Oil Street exhibition, where they learned about the exhibits and the artists' narratives while experiencing immersive visual and sensory effects. The activity was conducted in small groups, allowing students to interact and get to know each other better. By viewing the sound art exhibition "encounters: oi! oi! oi!," they rediscovered forgotten sounds in their daily lives, embarking on a multi-sensory journey. Additionally, from a historical architecture perspective, they learned about this Grade II historic building, which transformed from staff quarters and storage space into a vibrant artistic venue. |

Hopewell Holdings Limited ("Hopewell") continued to support the Green Low Carbon Day organized by The Community Chest of Hong Kong on June 16 and 17, 2024. Hopewell encouraged its employees to practice a low-carbon lifestyle and donate HK$85 or more to use environmentally friendly transportation, integrating the concept of environmental protection into their daily lives. Employees who donated HK$85 or more received a Commemorative Ticket.
Hopewell actively supports community charity initiatives. In addition to corporate donations, the Group also matches the donations raised by its employees. Furthermore, Hopewell will also grant the commemorative tickets to volunteers who actively participate in voluntary work, recognizing their spirit of selfless dedication. |
| Hong Kong Design Institute Students Create Vibrant Wall Mural Depicting Wan Chai's Blend of Old and New | | | 03 Jun 2024
Hopewell Holdings Limited (“Hopewell”) is dedicated to nurturing the next generation and supporting young talents in establishing their career paths. Hopewell and the Vocational Training Council (VTC) co-organized the "Hopewell Storytelling Design Competition", where participants designed murals for the back lane walls of Hopewell Centre II, using the theme of blending Wan Chai's old and new cultures. Through exquisite illustrations and vibrant colors, the students enhanced the community's streetscape and showcased the vibrant dynamism of Wan Chai.
Nearly 200 students from the Higher Diploma in Illustration Design program at the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) participated in the "Hopewell Storytelling Design Competition", which commenced in February 2024. The competition aimed to uncover the students' innovative abilities and allow them to interpret Wan Chai's rich cultural fusion through their creative and illustration skills. During the competition's process, the students visited the vicinity of Hopewell Centre II, and were encouraged to explore Wan Chai, traverse its streets and alleys to collect information, familiarize themselves with Hopewell and Hopewell Centre, and discover the district's culture and history. This enabled them to incorporate the blend of old and new cultures in their works, cultivating their observation, analysis, and illustration interpretation abilities, thereby enhancing their professional skills.
The design competition concluded successfully on June 3rd, with 21 finalist entries. The judging panel comprised Mrs. Ivy Wu Kwok Sau-ping, Hopewell's Director; Mr. Danny Fan, Mr. Stanley Kwok, Mr. Jay Lee, and Ms. Jennifer Fok from Hopewell's senior management; Ms. Ngan Shuk-yin, Senior Assistant Executive Director of VTC; and Mr. Tam Chi-hang, Associate Head of HKDI. The entries were evaluated based on creativity (40%), aesthetics (40%), storytelling and design concept (20%). After rigorous assessment, seven outstanding designs were selected as the champion, first runner-up, second runner-up, and third runner-up, receiving HK$130,000, HK$80,000, HK$50,000, and HK$26,000 in funding respectively, as well as 14 merit awards. The champion design will be adapted into a mural to add an artistic flair to the back lane of Hopewell Centre II. An award presentation ceremony will be held later.
The winning entries will be exhibited at the HKDI in early November and then relocated to Hopewell Centre II in December, allowing the public to share in the creativity and achievements of these young talents. |
| Hopewell and St. James’ Settlement Celebrates Tuen Ng Festival with 1,000 Elderly Singletons for fourteen years | | | 01 Jun 2024
Hopewell Holdings Limited (“Hopewell”) and St. James' Settlement (“SJS”) have joined hands for the fourteenth year to organize the “HH Social Club Tuen Ng Volunteer Programme” sending blessings to nearly a thousand elderly singletons to celebrate the Tuen Ng Festival. This programme has benefitted over 13,000 elderly singletons to date, sharing the festive joy.
On June 1, 2024, 30 volunteers and their family members participated in the “HH Social Club Tuen Ng Volunteer Visit”. They visited nearly 50 households of elderly singletons in Wan Chai District and Tsuen Wan District, delivering gift packs and blessings. This year, the theme of activity focused on life and death education. Prior to the home visits, the volunteers attended a life and death education seminar cum volunteer briefing by SJS, learning about pre-planning services and acquire communication skills with the elderly. The volunteers also prepared gift packs, including rice dumplings made by Panda Hotel, food items, and pill boxes.
Mrs. Ivy Wu Kwok Sau-ping, Director of Hopewell Holdings Limited, said, “Hopewell is committed to serving the community and actively building a more inclusive society. Tuen Ng Volunteer Visit has been held for 14 years, spreading festive love and warmth with the elderly singletons before the Tuen Ng Festival.
